The Race to Nothing

If one feels that a “practice” may be helpful then it may help to stabilize the monkey-mind or still the body. However what could we practice to be what we already are? Where could we go to arrive where we never left?

Waking in the morning
to the jarring warning
of the starter’s gun to begin the run,
feet swing to the floor
and the seeking has begun.

Billions cross the starting line,
bodies jostling for position,
racing and blindly chasing
after objects and effects,
lost in transient embracing.

Yet some few quietly remain
knowing there’s nothing to attain,
having recognized with beginner’s eyes
the prize for which the racers pine:
start and finish, the very same line.
